Featured Artist November 2006: Jeanne Haner

Jeanne Haner of JH Jewelry Studio has been a Houstonian since 1982.

Her first recognition as artist occurred in the ninth grade in Allentown, PA when the local newspaper publicized a paper project she had completed in art class. The following year she entered a juried show with several pieces of pottery and a 3-D oil painting. Creatively she has done a lot since Allentown. Currently the medium Jeanne uses is glass. She creates pieces (used in her jewelry) by making a glass sandwich (so to speak) out of dichroic ( a NASA glass with a film of of metal oxides) and compatible glass and then firing it a varying temperatures and times to get the desired effect. The temperature and time in the kiln dictate the uniqueness of each piece. Experimentation is an extension of this art form. Right now Jeanne creates one of a kind pendants, earrings and pins in her studio in Spring. She plans on adding bolos, cuff links and barrettes soon. "

Haner's journey with glass started after she bought her first piece of Dichroic glass. She bought it, loved the reflective qualities, took a class or two, bought a kiln and here she is! "Glass is her Passion". Jeanne had her public start at the Yale Street Arts Market in 2005.. Since then she has enjoyed the camaraderie of the Yale Street artists, had a "Trunk" show at the Houstonian, pieces at ArtFul Living Gallery, exhibited at the Wine Festival in Montgomery and the Italian Festival. She presently has a shelf at Simply Art Gallery in Galveston.

Now she is busy at work on "Hats off to Her-Story" WIVLA Gala. She can be seen at these upcoming shows –Yale Street Arts Market, Bellaire Festival and Northwest Forest Conference. You might also find her at the Onion Creek Café or La Carafe. She prefers red wine.
