Paule Sheya Hewlett -- Beyond Her Productions

Paule Sheya Hewlett is a freelance writer and artist living in Houston. She studied art and English in college. Then, while working and raising a family, she concentrated on producing quick watercolors and an assortment of crafts, which evolved into the Beyond Her collection.

Although nature is the basis for much of her work, Paule is also fascinated by unique household objects and has set out to create products that are a joy to use. Her mantra is, “Finding the beauty, wonder and delight in everyday things.”

Paule has produced the Art for Every Day calendar and note cards since 1999. Today the Beyond Her collection is an expanding universe of paper, textile and ceramic products.

Beyond its unique watercolor and pen and ink imagery, the Beyond Her line generally includes a literary dimension. Carefully chosen quotations and verses often accompany the illustration; sometimes a single word is added to the product design. The stationery sets all have a theme, played out in the graphics, the packaging and the words. It’s all meant to touch both mind and soul.

As Paule says, “These are anything but consumer products. They’re supposed to remind you of the sweetness, the beauty, in life.”

The name Beyond Her is drawn from a favorite phrase, “It’s beyond me” – an artist’s reaction to the quirks of modern living. It also denotes taking a view that goes above and beyond.
